This Day In Film: August 24

by Nicholas Robinson

Even though his career has only spanned 2 decades so far (less than half of my feature yesterday) Takashi Miike deserves to be recognized.  On August 24, 1960 he was born.  In this relatively short space of time, this Japanese director has brought us over 80 films including: 13 Assassins, Audition and Ichi the Killer.  His films tend to be controversial, provocative and bizarre in nature.  This is what makes him a truly great director.  Like Lars von Trier, he doesn’t make movies for the audience, he makes them for himself.  The audience liking it is just a perk.

Here are trailers for three of his movies: Audition, Ichi the Killer and 13 Assassins.
